France’s Pasqal is public, with $360M and a valuation of about 100 times revenue

Pasqal began trading on Nasdaq on Friday under the ticker PSQL, five months after announcing it would go public through a special purpose acquisition company. Shares surged on the debut, according to Reuters.

The merger with Bleichroeder Acquisition Corp. II closed on 27 August, a day after shareholders approved it, leaving the company with roughly $360m in cash. In euros, that is €309m, and it is the number that matters more than the ticker.

The filings had anticipated about $500m in gross proceeds. Landing at $360m is the arithmetic of redemptions, which is the mechanism by which SPAC shareholders decline to come along and take their money back instead.

Even so, this is one of the larger cash piles any European quantum company has ever had at its disposal. The whole of Europe’s quantum sector raised around €1.05bn during 2026, which puts a single balance sheet at close to a third of a continent’s annual funding.

The valuation is the part that will draw scrutiny. The deal was struck in March at $2bn pre-money against 2025 revenue of €16.5m, a multiple of roughly 100 times, and the filings themselves conceded that commercial traction for quantum computing may never occur.

What the company does have is deployed hardware rather than a roadmap. Seven neutral-atom quantum processing units are in the field with three more in production, supporting over 25 commercial and research applications across energy, financial services and materials science.

The customer list is the strongest thing in the prospectus. Saudi Aramco, Crédit Agricole CIB and LG Electronics are all named, and the Aramco machine is Saudi Arabia’s first quantum computer.

Two partnerships do a lot of work in the pitch. Pasqal is tied to Nvidia on the classical side and sits inside the IBM Quantum Network, which places it within both of the ecosystems that currently decide how quantum hardware reaches customers.

Neutral-atom systems work by trapping individual atoms in arrays of laser light and manipulating them with further lasers. The approach avoids the extreme cryogenics superconducting qubits demand, which is part of why it has attracted the attention it has.

“Today is not a finish line; it is an acceleration point,” said chief executive Wasiq Bokhari, who framed the listing as the move from foundational science to industrial-scale deployment.

The proceeds go towards manufacturing capacity at the Palaiseau headquarters, work on fault tolerance, the cloud and software platform, integration with classical high-performance computing, and international expansion. A dual listing on Euronext Paris is also planned.

Neutral atoms also scale in a way that suits the physics. Adding qubits means adding traps to an array rather than fabricating and wiring more superconducting circuits, and Pasqal passed 1,000 atoms in a processor back in 2024.

The board keeps the French centre of gravity that the company has been careful to advertise. Alain Aspect, who shared the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics and co-founded the company, chairs it in a non-executive capacity, and Bpifrance has a seat through Nicolas Berdou.

There is a harder guarantee underneath the symbolism. France retains a veto over significant non-French and non-EU stakes, requiring approval from the Ministry of the Economy, which is an unusual thing to carry onto an American exchange.

Quantum companies that reached public markets before it have traded on narrative more than numbers, and with considerable volatility. Pasqal now joins that group with a revenue line most investors will treat as a rounding error and a technology story they will treat as the asset.

Choosing Nasdaq over Paris was a decision about capital depth rather than allegiance, and Bokhari has said as much. It is also a decision several European deeptech companies have now made, for the same stated reason.

France has spent heavily to reach this point, including a €500m programme backing domestic quantum champions. Pasqal is the first of them to face a daily share price.
